"Every time I see a Yankees hat, I see a swastika just a little off kilter." - Bill Lee
With wins from the Sox and the Cubs tonight, we are 3 wins each from the apocalypse series.
As happy I am with the Sox win and how impressive Tim Wakefield was on the mound, I just happy, not ecstatic, or overly excited. I guess in the back of my mind I know it's only one game and that as complete a win it was it just wasn't the nail-biter that the previous 3 games were and this win is, well, anti-climatic.
What I enjoyed the most about last night's win? The fact that from the 4th inning on when we scored 4 runs you could hear a pin drop in the stadium, except for the 7th inning when the Yankees rallied to score 2. It's amazing how easy it was to take the crowd out of the game. I'm sure George will plant something in the Post to help get the crown into a frenzy.
As for that fan that touched the ball that Walker hit to the foul pole? A) If he didn't touch it would have hit the pole anyway and 2) No one in the Bronx was inciting fan interference in '98 when a fan reached 6 feet over the back wall for a home run that help put away the series for the Yanks.
But there is more to this game than meets the eye. The Bullpen, which has been the scariest thing to come out of Boston since MCAS, has been lights out and has not allowed a run in last 4 games and 12 innings. Amazing.
