Traffic? What Traffic?

I had been dreading my commute to The Gulag for weeks given the road closures due to the DNC, but I guess alot more people just said nuts to this and took the week off. As the normal rush hour came I started checking the SmarTraveler web site just to see how bad things are and not only did I see no problems, but the roads were empty, even on Route 128 between 4pm and 6pm which from experience I have spent many annoying hours on in standstill traffic. Of course by the time I get out of work, the highways look almost deserted on the way home.

I guess this is a good thing. Of course now I have no leg to stand on as I was almost hoping for bad traffic to make the case for telecommuting now and in the future. Oh well......

As The Sox win 3 in the row, I was right in predicting that Kevin Millar would win AL player of the week, but did not expect  he would share the honor with Baltimore's Miguel Tejada, who batted .424 (14-for-33) with 14 RBIs. As good as that is, it's no where near what Millar did (.583, 6HR, 32 total bases). As defense is not in the box scores, I'm sure the difference was in his work at shortstop.

While the Sox were trouching the Orioles, I peeked briefly at things over at the news networks to check out the Fleet center and the DNC and I noticed a couple of things:
  • They really tore up the FleetCenter, especially in the loge area to accommodate the stage, the TV crews and the news desks. And they have to put that all back in place in 2 weeks for a concert. It also looks like the smallest venue I have ever seen for such an event. I really wish that the Dems didn't plant their feet in the sand about moving over to the brand new huge convention center on the South End. Now only would the Fleet Center not have to tore up and put back together with federal funds, but I'm sure they wouldn't have had to close I-93 as the new place is a good 2 miles from any major highway.
  • That the "fair and balanced" tag Fox News uses is now officially a real joke. Not that I wanted to hear him, but one would expect blanket coverage of a speech by a major Demorcrat like Al Gore. While Gore's speech was covered on all other news channels, Fox News went about having the Bill O'Reilly rant-a-thon with Gore speech in the background. Why did Fox News even bother to have a presence there, other than to try to show they ARE "fair and balanced" and at the same time allow their pundits to comment negatively live in person.

Well, off to my trouble free commute. Yay.
