ComicCon - Day Three - Part Deux
Sorry for the delay - work has been murder this week.....
So anyway, after the con was over we wanted to get over to the theatre fairly early so a sit down dinner was out, so we regrouped at one person's hotel that was near the theatre and then went across the street to Quizno's. I didn't get a chance to grab any lunch before because all the concession stands were crazy busy all day so it really was quite good.
After we headed over to the theatre. The theatre was in this unique mall-type structure that it was open air yet still mostly indoors. After they herd us into the theatre we all get padded down for cameras, camcorders, etc by security much like they did at the first screening back in May. Then we enter the theatre and see it's an "old-style" flat floor theatre. I guess I'm just spoiled with stadium seating. But I have not been in this kind of theatre in a couple of years and that was in Vermont where Dolby stereo is a new innovation. I was somewhat disappointed but figured it was the 4th time I've seen the film and I once I sat down I the chairs felt quite comfy and plus with the walking and lack of sleep I found myself starting to doze off a little before the film started. I could have easily fell asleep during the movie.
Well, at least until Joss showed up.
Of course that woke me up and got every one in a frenzy. We welcomed and thanked everyone for coming. Then we find out why he looked like death warmed over last night - it seems he spent right up until late Thursday-early Friday FINISHING the movie including final credits, music and sound. No work print and temp music this time - we are gonna see the FINAL product as it will be seen 10 weeks from now in 2,000 theatres!!!!!
Before he took his seat to watch the film with us, Joss asked, "How many people went to the preview screenings? Because if you saw those screenings, you DIDN'T see 'Serenity'". And boy was he right!! It was the same basic film, of course, but the editing made the pacing tighter, the music was very good and the final effects were excellent. The film was good the first time but the final product is excellent.
After the film Joss got a standing ovation, of course. He thanked everyone again and headed out the emergency exit. As we mingled out to the lobby a few minutes later, who do see but......Joss again, meeting his adoring fans for autographs and pictures. Of course I head over and get my Chinese Hey hat signed and get a picture with him.
The New England Browncoats signed a birthday card and DVD of a theatre full of people singing Happy Birthday to him last month and I had it given to Ray to give to him. I asked him of he got it and he said yes and thank you very much.
So after the rush of seeing the movie and finally getting a picture with Joss, I got my second wind, even though I had been up for over 19 hours on 4 hours sleep.
It was after midnight and I said we needed to find a bar. And we did. A bunch of us were directed to a place called The Yard House a couple a blocks away. We only got to spend a hour or so there was we got there late, but the place was excellent. I wish I knew about it before. This place had the widest selection of commercial beer on tap I had ever seen. If I every get the ComicCon again, I thing will be here and maybe The Field when am I not at the con.
After last call we head off for a place that's not closed, but could not find one. So we went our separate ways and I headed off to bed. Hell, maybe I'll even sleep in tomorrow. Getting up for 9am is sleeping in, right?
After all, it wasn't gonna get any better than today.
