ComicCon - Day One

Sorry about being tardy about my big trip to San Diego last week. I have been really sick this week after I got back and I also have been going back and forth about how to detail my trip to Comic Con. Do I just give the big moments or bore everyone to death with every detail? So I decided to make bullet points of observations and write in detail all the cool things. But I can tell you one thing that was constant throughout the time I was– the pain in my legs and feet from the standing and walking. Come Sunday I was barely walking but plugging on because I was having fun. I’m amazing what one will endure to do what they want, huh?

In advance I apologize for whose who names I do not recall fully in my reports. I met so many cool new folks out there that if I get the names wrong I do not want to piss anyone off calling one person'’s name another.

I'’ll post each day one at a time.

Day 1

The San Diego Convention Center is, without exaggeration, the biggest single building I have ever been in. The building is literally 5 blocks long if not a bit longer. The exhibit (dealers) hall pretty much takes up the entire first floor. Upstairs has 40 meeting rooms that hold from 160 to 4,000 each. When I got there it was like arriving at Disney World for the first time. Despite all the pre-planning I made beforehand all my mind was saying was "“What am I going to do first?"

My first panel was with Bruce Campbell. Bruce is very funny guy, but he doesn'’t suffer fools easily. One fan asked him when Alien Apocalypse is coming to DVD. His sarcastic response was: "“Why? Because it'’s such a great movie?"” and answered a lot of questions with the phrase "I'’m just an actor - they don't tell be (anything)"”. He defiantly has no illusions that the films he makes are Oscar contenders. In fact he seems to relish being a B-movie actor and he tells some great stories about filming in such countries like Bulgaria and Turkey where crews make 1/20 of US film crews make. In a way it’s a shame because he is a really good actor, but he has done well with his "“Schlock Schick" in recent years

I made it down to the SF Browncoats fan table. I said hello to "“old"” friends Ray and Kristen and introduced myself to the rest of the folks working the table. After the con we headed to a really good Irish pub called “The Field” on 5th avenue. On the way to the place I took the time to walk around and take in the "“tourist" part of San Diego including walking around Petco Park. As much as a lover of baseball I am, I knew there wasn’t going to be any time to get to see a game. Afterward I headed back to the hotel as I was still on East Coast time and already logged in a lot of walking time.

Tomorrow: A long day.....
