I saw 2 movies this weekend and neither of them involved Superheroes or Robots

I went to see The Village last Friday night with The Mrs.......and I liked it. I recommend it. It's no where as good as The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable but much better than Signs.

But do not yell at me if you go see it and hate it.

I have not seen a film get such polaroized opinions in quite a long time. Prior to seeing the film I glanced at the reviews and saw a 50/50 split of positive and negative reviews. I had some reservations about seeing it myself that night was I really wanted a good time but I figured I should see it before I hear all the spoilers. After seeing the film about half of the sold out crowd in the theatre didn't like it and some just outright hated it.

I think the reason such a vast difference of opinion is the way that the film was marketed. The Village is M. Night Shyamalan's most personal film and while it has the same 3rd act "surprise ending" as the other films it's no where as much a "genre" piece. I liked it for the storytelling and the wonderful performances, especially from William Hurt and newcomer Bryce Dallas Howard. I do recommend seeing it. Love it or hate it, at least you will be talking about it afterward.

Also saw The Manchurian Candidate this weekend with my teen. I also liked this one alot and recommend it. It's not in the class of the 1963 original, but a good adult popcorn movie with Meryl Streep doing a wonderfully over the top version of Hillary Clinton.
