Waiting for Four

While contemplating the fact that The Sox actually might make it all the way tonight, I have read a few newspaper and online article that wonder what fans are going to do with themselves if and/or when The Sox win The Series. Some of the speculations from writers outside of New England are that Sox fans will lose interest in the team because the losing and moaning and groaning about it is what keeps them loyal. I disagree. In fact, the fan interest I think will increase so much that despite having over 2.7 tickets available over 81 home games in a season, getting a ticket to Fenway will be almost as hard as getting a ticket to see the Patriots, who only have 500,000 tickets available per season. Others jokingly speculate that deaths will increase, as older fans will let go because The Sox finally won it all and can die happy. This I actually believe.

There is a bittersweet part of this possible win tonight or tomorrow. Because of work and family, I will not be able to share the moment with Ho and Bismo, 2 of my best friends and fellow Sox Diehards. We all want to let our kids stay up and watch this momentous occasion on TV like my father let me stay up to watch the 1975 Series and that makes getting together impossible. Plus we all still have to get up early the next day for work and it'll be hard enough getting up after watching it from home never mind going to someone else's house or a sports bar. Hopefully we might be able to get together for the possible celebration parade an/or rally. (Despite being a Sox fan, I don't believe talking about a parade is a jinx.) Months ago Bismo and I always talked about going to Fenway the night of a possible clinching win, but after what happened last week with all the vandalism and the tragic death of a celebrant, we thought better of it. I guess we are all finally starting to show our age.

Meanwhile, while I'm doing pretty well on my new gig, I heard from my source about the other position - the "dream job" – and was told that I WILL at the very least get an interview for it, but there is no word on when that will be except that it most likely be this week or next. I am not getting my hopes up too much about the prospect of the position, but I cannot be less than thrilled to death that I am gonna be in the running for it. It's a job that I know that I would be excited about.
