A Mother of a Father's Day
This was really a terrific Father's Day weekend for me. If fact, it was for the me the best Father's Day I ever had in the 9 years I have been one.
On Saturday I took the little one with me to pick up the 3 children of friends of ours that just bought a house. We agreed to help watch them for the day as they needed a little "breathing room" while they assisted the movers with the major items. As we brought them home with us one of the little ones cried almost all the way to my place, but once we got some food in him (Thank goodness for Happy Meals!!!) he and all the kids were terrific.
Later as the Mrs. and the teen brought the kids back home, I took the little one to dinner and to see Around the World in 80 Days. It was entertaining enough but I would only recommend it for anyone that has kids age 7-12. The little one enjoyed it very much and it is, in it's own way, a wonderful way to introduce your kids to the legend that is Jackie Chan.
Sunday was Father's Day, of course, and the family bought my lazy butt a lounge chair for our deck. Now I can take naps and get a tan at the same time!!! I also got a wonderful card from the Mrs. with a note basically saying that she was proud of me for putting up with my crappy job and that I was loved. God Bless the day I met her.
I was asked what I wanted to do and since it was a just beautiful day I said I wanted to go see the PawSox play. Usually I didn't like going on days that the reserved seats were sold out as you need to get there really early to get a good spot in general admission, but I figured it was nice enough day to go early, bring a couple of beach blankets and grab a spot on the berm, a grassy area above right field. I took my older one and her boyfriend as the little one and I did something by ourselves Saturday and only has one "complete game" under her belt and, given the early arrival, probably wouldn't go the distance. We got there about 75 minutes early and got a choice spot in the area, which by the start of the game was completely full.
The PawSox lost, but it couldn't have been a better time (well, except for last week's game). We laid in the not too hot sun for hours and took in a pretty good game plus my daughter's boyfriend got himself a game ball!!
After the game we went to see DodgeBall. I needed a stupid but very funny comedy and that's exactly what I got. It was a whole lotta fun. I highly recommend it.
I ended the day putting together and enjoying an outdoor fireplace that the Mrs. bought. I didn't think I would enjoy having something like that in our yard but I'm so happy I was wrong. All was missing was a beer in my hand, but with the diet, I settled for a diet coke. It was a wonderful ending to a wonderful day.
I may hate my job, but I'm still a lucky guy.
