Nomar needs More Cowbell

First off, you gotta see this!! (Quicktime required)......but make sure you come back!!

Ok, here are my thoughts for the day.

Bill the Sports Guy, writer of one of my favorite online columns More Cowbell (man I wish I thought of that name first, dammit!), in his column last week made the same point I did. He defended that statement in his column yesterday stating (correctly, I might add) that Derek Jeter, as much as I hate to admit it, is a better overall player and a leader in The Empire while Nomar “has not been carrying his weight” on the team for the last 4 years given the respect (and the money) he is demanding.

Well after the last couple of days my post of wanting Nomar to be traded as soon as possible seems a bit immature. He HAS been hitting the ball well of late, but I feel that the Sox still need to look long and hard about getting something for him before the trading deadline because:

a) There is no guarantee that he’ll stay on this pace, and mostly
b) There is nothing that’s gonna keep him in a Boston uniform past this season short of vastly overpaying him, which this new ownership will surely not do.

To put a point on it, the only way I would like him to stay for the rest of the season and get nothing for him is if the Sox cannot get a player that can help out this season, in which case I’ll just treat him as a “Rent-A-Player” for the home stretch.

My project for The Gulag is almost done, thankfully. But something I found very disconcerting was an e-mail I came across that basically said that doing stupid things like this project are given to us to justify our existence. When someone (not me) asked if I was doing this project for the incentive of becoming a permanent employee, this was the response:

<< My first reaction to incentives is the incentive is to be employed. I know this sounds harsh but we need to prove our value to the Corporation. >>

Nice, huh? So I need to "prove my value" but NOT doing what I was hired to do and do this foolish project.

According to this e-mail, if I didn’t do this project, I (or someone else) might get the ax. At this point I actually have incentive to NOT do this project and get laid off. That way I can finally be done with this place.

But that damn sense of integrity, ethics and the need to feed my family and pay the mortgage get in the way.
